Issue No 4, 24th February 2010

This issue….

For those visitors lucky enough to be heading to Phuket in late February and March you will find calm seas and blue skies, great for day trips out to Phi Phi or Phang Nga Bay. March and April are generally the hottest months in Phuket. I was just looking at the live Karon Beach webcam and can only wish that we were packing our bags and heading off.

What’s on in Phuket in March 2010

The Asian Amateur Golf Tour event in Phuket is the first of 9 events around Asia in 2010. The event is open to all male amateurs with a handicap of 21 or less. The format is a fun practice team game at Phuket Country Club on Friday 19th March, then 54 holes of stableford at Blue Canyon Lakes, Loch Palm and BC Canyon courses over the next 3 days. The winner of the event will go on a free weekend to Bali in November to compete in the Grand Finals. Entry fee is $799 which includes 4 nights’ bed & breakfast at Club Andaman, 4 rounds of golf including caddy, cocktail and all transfers. If you already have your accommodation booked and would just like to play golf it will cost $499. There are discounts for club members. If you book before the 28th February you will receive a $50 reduction. For more information call +66 (0) 8 7888 7565.

Throughout March the Laguna Phuket is offering a daily Kidz Fun Zone programme followed by a night market with food stalls, beer garden, kid's entertainment and market stalls at Laguna’s Canal Shopping Village from Wednesday through Saturday from 2.30pm to 10.30pm. There are games, sports clinics with experienced instructors in golf, football and tennis. Treasure hunts, high ropes activities, Kids Survivor Challenge and rock climbing will be available for kids. For adults, the Banyan Tree Spa and Angsana Spas at Allamanda and Laguna Beach Resort will offer generous discounts on 90-minute massages from 2 to 5pm. The Laguna Phuket Golf Club offers “buy one get one free' on bags of 50 golf balls for the driving range. In addition, the Laguna hotels will offer food and beverage promotions for the family.

From the 6th to the 20th March is the Phuket Two Heroines Festival. The Festival will include a mass ordination of monks during these dates, a ritual worship of Phuket’s ancestors on 12 March, and a laying flower garlands ceremony on 13 March, a sport event on historical road on 7 March, touring to historical sites during 8-10 March, and light and sound show as well as other performances during 13-15 March, 2010. The festival takes place around the heroine’s monument on Thep Krasatri Road.
